State Park grand opening is officially set for August 28

Saturday, August 28 is the day!

At long last, after almost a year of delays, the new Bogue Chitto State Park will officially open on August 28.
At 9 a.m. that morning, the park will finally be in business.

Opening ceremonies are now being finalized by the Louisiana Office of State Parks, and complete details on the event will appear in next week’s edition of The Era-Leader.

A spokesman for the Office of State Parks said the opening will be an all-day affair, lasting from 9 a.m. until about 4 p.m. She said that community leaders from Franklinton and Washington Parish will participate, as well as statewide elected officials.

The park has been dreamed about for many years, and it has been officially proposed for a decade. Ongoing construction issues and roadway problems pushed the opening back repeatedly, but now, the spokesman said, the August 28 opening date is definite. “That’s it --- August 28th!” she exclaimed.

A special section of The Era-Leader commending the new Bogue Chitto State Park will appear in our regular edition of August 11. Look for it!
