Fall decorating contest underway

Franklinton’s traditional fall festival decorating contest is underway.It is sponsored by the Franklinton Chamber of Commerce.Linda Crain, Chamber director, said, “Decorating homes and businesses is always one of the highlights of the fall season. It shows Franklinton’s spirit and pride, as well as gives a warm welcome to the hundreds of visitors in our community during the Washington Parish Free Fair.” Chamber president Michelle Amacker and contest chairman Barbara Mule’ are urgeing residents, businesses, schools and clubs to join in the fun of decorating in a goodnatured, competitive spirit. There are a few changes in the decorating contest rules this year. Scarecrows are encouraged, but not mandatory.

In addition, entries containing natural items such as pumpkins, cornstalks, fresh or dried flowers, painted wood items, hay bales, etc. are encouraged, but attractive artificial items are acceptable, Ms Crain said. Antique artifacts may be used in the display. To enter your display, call Ms Crain at the Franklinton Chamber (839-5822) before 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 16. Out-of-town judges will begin judging early on Saturday, October 16. Award signs will be placed at the site of the winners after the judging is completed.
